Vestry Meeting May 1935

The monthly meeting of the Vestry was held in the Vicarage, Church St., Masterton, on Tuesday, May 28th 1935 at 8 p.m. (Pages 251-252)


Present

The Vicar presiding; Vestrymen Clarke, Russell, Penistone, Coleman and Hyde, and H A R Dunderdale (Hon Treas.) acting Secretary.


Apologies

Four? absences were received from (Churchwarden) R E Maunsell and Vestrymen Messrs Peacock and Denbee. 


Minutes

Of the meetings held on March 26th and April 30th minutes were read and confirmed.


Parochial nominators

The Church Wardens - Messrs R E Maunsell and J Ninnes, together with Vestrymen Messrs Hale and Hyde, were re-elected as Parochial Nominators for the ensuing year, on the motion of Mr Clarke, seconded by Mr Penistone.


Sign post

Mr Winhall wrote suggesting that a finger post "To St Matthew's Anglican Church" be erected at the intersection of Dixon and Church Streets. Mr Clarke moved that he be thanked for his suggestion and that enquiries be made as to cost and permission to erect the sign. Seconded Mr Hyde and carried.


Tennis court

The Technical School applied for the use of the Tennis Courts for basket ball as in the previous year,. Mr Hyde moved and Mr Clarke seconded that the application be granted. Carried.


North Wairarapa Permanent Building and Investment Society

Advised that a dividend amounting to £1.10.01 had been placed to the credit of their account, making the total value of the shares £54.8.0.


Financial Statements

Were circulated, adopted and accounts amounting to £12.9.4 were passed for payment, on the motion of the Rev. E J Rich, seconded by Mr W Clarke.


Fence

Mr G Hyde moved that the fence in front of St Matthew's Church be removed, the posts given to Sedgley A B D [Anglican Boys' Home] and a batter? sloping back from the footpath be made, the matter to be left in the Vicar's hands. Seconded by Mr Coleman and Carried.


Chapel

Rev E J Rich moved that a committee consisting of Messrs J Ninnes, W Penistone, Dr A Hosking and the Vicar to meet up to consider the completion of the Chapel and report back to the next meeting of the Vestry. Seconded Mr G Hyde and carried.


Sympathy

It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mr T T Denbee expressing the hope that he would soon be restored to good health and back again at the meetings of the Vestry.


Offertories

Vestrymen Russell and Coleman were appointed to take up the offertories for the ensuing month.


The meeting closed with the Grace.
