July 1922 Vestry Meeting

Minutes of Vestry Meeting held in the Church room on Thursday, July 27, 1922, at 7.30 pm. (Pages 5-6)


Present

The Vicar, the Rev. W. Bullock in the chair; Churchwardens Hale and Major; Vestrymen Whitton, ?, Hyde, Clark, Blackman, Triman, Waddington, Denbee and the Revd. Moir.


Apologies

for absence were received from Mr Best.


Minutes

The minutes of the Vestry meeting held on Wednesday, June 25, 1922, were read and confirmed.


Treasurer

Arising therefrom Mr Major reported the Churchwardens had interviewed Mr Gully for taking over the Treasurership and that Mr Gully had declined. That they had then approached Mr Halliwell and Mr Halliwell had agreed to accept the position.

Mr Blackman moved and Mr Hale seconded That Mr Halliwill be appointed Treasurer at a remuneration of £20 per annum and that he actively take up his duties from August 1st, 1922. Carried.

Mr Major stressed that point that before Mr Halliwill takes over the books, in fairness to him they should be audited and moved that Mr Clark interview Mr Dyer with the object of getting the books audited to date.  Carried.


R W Jackson

Mr Major mentioned the fact that Mr R W Jackson had prepared the agreement re the lease of the South Road house free of charge and moved that the Secretary write Mr Jackson conveying the thanks of the Vestry to him for so doing. Carried.


Parish Room

Mr Major moved and Mr Whitton seconded that a note of thanks be accorded Mr Hyde and his co-workers for their trouble in fitting up this room in the comfortable manner in which they have done.  Carried.


Building scheme

It was resolved that a committee consisting of Messrs Major, Hale, Clarke, Hyde and Blackman to set up with the object of going into the question of a forward building move for the Parish, and to report to a meeting of the vestry at a future date.


In the absence of the Treasurer the Secretary read the Financial Statement which was received and the following accounts passed for payment:

A R Wild - Repairing chairs - £0.10.6
Wairarapa Age - Advt concert - £0.4.0
L M Scott - Hymns and Prayer Books - £1.17.0
Begg & Coy - Olivet to Calvary - £3.16.9
Wairarapa Age - Advt services, etc - £1.15.0
Daily Times - Advt services, etc - £1.17.0
Alliance Insurance - Premium - £0.6.9
C Smith - Epiphany - £0.7.10
Gas Dept - Epiphany - £0.6.0


Gas stove

It was resolved that one of the gas heaters in the Old Church be removed to the Church of the Epiphany.


That the status of the Revd. Moir on the Vestry of St Matthew's be of the fullest possible, allowed by statute.


Offertories

Messrs Welch and Whitton were appointed to take up the offertories for August.


The meeting closed with the Grace.
