November 20, 1926 Vestry Meeting

St Matthew's Collegiate School was officially opened at its new premises in Pownall Street on 25 November 1926 by the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt Rev Thomas Sprott.

Minutes of the Vestry Meeting held in the Common Room on Thursday, November 20, 1926 (page 103).


Present

The Vicar presiding, Churchwarden Maunsell; Vestrymen Penistone, Morton, McCartney, Hyde, Green, Denbee.

Apologies Messrs Smith and Hale.


Minutes

The Minutes of the last meeting of the Vestry held on Thursday, November 4th were read and confirmed.


Noxious weeds

In response to a requisition served on the Vestry to get certain noxious weeds cleared off the old church site, the Vicar reported that the work had been carried. out.


Parish Hall liability

The Vicar moved and Mr Hyde seconded that the Treasurer be instructed to pay off  £100 of the principal monies owing on the Parish Hall, subject to the consent of the Girls' Club and Ladies' Guild being obtained. Carried.


Financial statement

The Financial Statement as appearing on page 710 was adopted and accounts appearing thereon totalling  £17.5.4 passed for payment.


Arising therefrom

Mr Maunsell moved that the insurance company be written to to ascertain how the premium of  £9/14/- is arrived at, also that enquiries be made through the Automobile Association with the object of finding out whether it is possible to get better insurance terms through their association than we are now getting. Seconded by Mr Hyde and Carried.


Resignation of Curate and Organist

This matter was discussed at some length and suggestions made. Eventually it was left in the hands of the vicar to make his own arrangements concerning both matters.

It was resolved that a Parishioners' farewell be tendered January 16th/26 [should be 1927] in the Parish Hall and that the details in connection with the social be left in the hands of the churchwardens.

It was further resolved that this Vestry places on record its sincere regret at losing the services of Mr Datson and expresses its honest appreciation of his services during the time he has been with us and wishes him every success in his new sphere of activities at Raetihi.


The meeting closed with the Grace.
