Vestry Meeting August 27, 1927
Minutes of Vestry Meeting held in the Common Room on Thursday, August 26, 1927, at 7.30 pm.
Present
The Vicar presiding; Vestrymen Ninnes, Russell, Penistone, Hale, Morton, Smith and Denbee.
Minutes
The minutes of the Vestry Meeting held on Wednesday, July 28, 1927, were read and confirmed.
New Curate
The Vicar explained he had been successful in obtaining the services of Mr McLevie [Edward McLevie] of St Peter's Parish, Wellington, to assist him at St Matthew's and that Mr McLevie would ? commence his duties in Masterton on Dec.1st next; in the matter of salary the arrangements are as follows:
During Mr McLevie's term as Deacon his salary is to be at the rate of £200 per annum; for the first year of his priesthood £250, thereafter £300 per year.
Mr Morton moved and Mr Smith seconded that the action of the Vicar be confirmed. Carried.
Financial statement
The Financial Statement as appearing on page 708 was read and accounts totalling thereon amounting to £44.19.4 passed "for pay".
Evening Weddings
Mr Denbee moved that in future all Evening Weddings in St Matthew's be charged an additional 10/- fee, such fee to cover the cost of lighting, etc. Seconded by Mr Smith and Carried.
S Mawley
A letter was received from Mr S Mawley, notifying the Vestry he had received payment for the Debenture he was holding for the New Church, amounting to £50, and that he had handed the £50 plus interest thereon, back to the Vestry toward repayment of the mortgage on the Parish Hall.
The Vicar moved that a letter be sent to Mr Mawley expressing the Vestry's extreme appreciation of his generous gift. Seconded by Mr Hale and Carried.
Offertories
Messrs Hyde and Herbert were appointed to take up the offertories for September.
The meeting closed with the Grace.
