Hall Committee minutes

Inserted between the pages of the November 4, 1926 vestry meeting were minutes of the Hall Committee and a meeting with the Girls' Club. These proved to be very difficult to transcribe. One page has not been transcribed. The pages may not be contiguous.

Hall Committee

Present: Vicar (chair); Datson, McCartney, Hyde and Green. (Dunderdale absent). (Page 1)

Vicar: That Hall Committee give permission to Scout Committee to remove the stage and generally clean up that end of the room, and also give power to ? to install gas fitting from new church. Seconded Green.

Re small room

Scouts given permission to use for individual instruction and examinations from 7 to 9 on Fridays and that the Scout Master be given a key who shall then be responsible for same. Seconded Mr McCartney.

The following appears to be points raised by the Girls' Club in respect of fundraising and hall management

Point I

In view of the fact that £1760 is still owing on the hall the Club object to paying out entirely for the interest and suggest that a sinking fund be created. Though the Club responded that the interest on the Parish Hall was to be the first charge on all monies raised, they do not feel they are called upon to give the entire proceeds of any venture to interest alone.

Point II

They notice that £93/3/- was the total amount in lettings during 1925-6. Of this £52 + £9/13/- was paid to the caretaker.

As this £93/3/- does not include amounts paid by our new church societies, (say £50 from outside lettings) is it worth letting at all? A caretaker must be maintained because of the lettings, otherwise a woman could do the necessary cleaning, probably in one half-day. Other church societies would do their own cleanups. If a caretaker is necessary in any case the church account might have to bear a greater proportion of this salary. We bring this forward only for discussion.

Point III

We think that rents from outside bodies should be kept separate from church societies (in balance sheet) in order to find out whether the lettings really were worthwhle.

Point IV

In view of the fact that the Girls' Club and Ladies' Guild are working entirely for the Parish Hall, we suggest that a representative from each body become a member of the Parish Hall committee, in order to discuss the paying off yearly of some amount of the Principal.

Point V

Would not the Hall Committee run some ? to raise funds.  NO! NO!

The next page is very hard to read and has not been transcribed.
