May 1923 Vestry Meeting
Minutes of the Vestry meeting held in the Common room on Tuesday, May 23, 1923, at 7 p.m. (Pages 29-30)
Present
The Vicar presiding; Churchwardens Hale and Dodge; Vestrymen Waddington, Hosking, Hyde, Trimen, Herbert, Dunderdale, Evans and Denbee.
Apologies
An apology for absence was received from Mr Ball.
Minutes
March 22, 1923, also the minutes of a Special meeting held on Thursday, 26 April 1923 were read and confirmed.
The Vicar, before commencing the ordinary business of the meeting, moved that this Vestry place on record its appreciation of the valued services and wise counsel which had all times been so readily placed at the disposal of the Vestry by Mr Major as Parishioners' warden and Messrs Clarke, Blackman and Best as Vestrymen.
He at the same time took the opportunity of welcoming to the vestry the new members Messrs Hosking, Ball, Dunderdale, and Hubert and expressed the wish that the same happy relationship would continue as in the past.
Mrs Inn's House - Curate
The Vicar informed the Vestry he had been successful in securing the services of a curate for the parish at a stipend of £250.
Mr Denbee raised the question of the house now occupied by Mr Moir of which the Vestry had recently entered into an agreement with Mrs Inns to lease.
It was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of Mr Evans to consult with Mr Major and report to the next meeting of the Vestry.
It was resolved that the action of the Vicar in instructing the Secretary to dispense with the services of the cleaner Mrs Marshall be confirmed.
It was resolved that Mr Ellis be employed to clean the hall and Sunday School at a remuneration of 7/6 per week, the same to be debited to the Parish Hall account.
Locker, Public Trust
The Secretary was instructed to make enquiries re renting a locker in the strong room at the office of the Public Trust and to report to the next meeting of the Vestry.
Tables and trestles
Mr Hyde stressed the necessity for procuring tables and trestles for use at the different functions held in connection with the church's many activities and quoted tenders he had received for making same.
It was resolved that the matter be left to Mr Hyde with power to act.
Financial Statement
That the Financial Statement as read be adopted and that the following account be passed for payment, viz,
Hart, Tucker & Daniell - £2.10.6
King & Henry - 6/9
Perry & Coy - 6/6
Carriers ? 9/4
Parish Hall
The Vicar urged the necessity for proceeding forthwith with the erection of a Parish Hall and Sunday School.
Mr Denbee moved that for the purpose of expediting the above forward move That a Sub-Committee be set up, the composition of such committee to be The Vicar, Dr Hosking and Mr Dodge, that the committee bring down a comprehensive scheme to the next meeting of the vestry. Seconded by Mr Evans.
It was decided that the Vestry would meet on the site after the morning service on Sunday next. Carried.
Motor car
The pros and cons in connection with providing a Parish Car was debated at considerable length but finality was not reached.
The meeting closed with the Grace.
