November 1922 Special Parishioners Meeting

Minutes of Special Meeting of Parishioners held in the Common Room on Thursday, November 23, 1922 at 8 p.m. (pages 14-15)


Present

The Vicar, the Rev W. Bullock presiding; Messrs Hale, Major, S Smith, Hyde, Knapp, Ball, A Brown, Dodge, Byford, Perry, Denbee and a number of ladies.


Apologies

An apology for absence was received from Dr Hosking.


The Parishioners' Meeting was called for the purpose of electing a vestryman to fill the vacancy caused through the death of the late A R Welch and to give authority to the vestry to secure the section next to the church from Messrs Gray Bros. at the price of £450.


The Pros and Cons having been fully considered Mr Major moved That this Special General Meeting  of parishioners of St Matthew's Parish, Masterton, hereby authorise the Vestry to purchase from Messrs Gray Bros. the land comprised in the option granted by them, at the price of £450 cash, for the purposes of erecting thereon a building for a Parish Hall Sunday School and any other church building.

Seconded by Mr Hale and carried.

Moved by Mr Major That the Vestry be authorised to appoint Trustees for the said land. Such trustees to be empowered to mortgage the said land upon such terms and conditions as the vestry shall approve.

Seconded by Mr Hyde and Carried.

It was resolved on the motion of Mr Major That the meeting of Parishioners extend to Messrs Gray Bros. their thanks for their placing this section of land at the disposal of the vestry. Carried.

Mr Hale moved and Mr R Brown Seconded.


Vacancy on Vestry

That Mr Dodge be nominated to fill the vacancy on the vestry.

There being no other nominations the Chairman declared Mr S B Dodge to be duly elected.


Vote of thanks

It was resolved that a hearty Vote of thanks be accorded Mr Major for his trouble in connection with getting an option over the section from Messrs Gray Bros.


The meeting closed with the Grace.
