Minutes of Vestry Meeting held at the Vicarage on Tuesday, June 26, 1934, at 7.45 pm


Present

The Vicar presiding; Churchwardens Ninnes and Maunsell; Vestrymen Hyde, Penistone, Coleman, Russell, Clark, Peacock, Hosking and Denbee.

Apology: Mr Hale


Minutes

The Minutes of the Vestry meeting held on Tuesday, May 29 were read and confirmed.


Late Mrs Hale

The Vicar feelingly referred to the loss the Church had sustained through the passing of Mrs Hale [Fanny Hale, nee Sowman, died 18 June 1934].

Moved That this vestry place on record its appreciation of the faithful service rendered to the Church of a long number of years, by the late Mrs Hale and that a letter be sent to Mr Hale conveying the Vestry's deepest sympathy with him and his family in their irreparable loss. The motion was carried in silence.


Technical School

It was resolved that the application from the Technical School re the use of the St Matthew's tennis courts for Basket Ball, be left in the hands of the Vicar and Mr Ninnes and that they be given power to act.


Rev. E. McLevie

The Vicar formally notified the vestry he had received the resignation of Mr McLevie to take effect early in July.

Mr Denbee moved and Mr Ninnes seconded That Mr McLevie be paid for his services to the end of July. Carried.

In the matter of arranging something in the nature of a farewell function to Mr McLevie it was resolved That in accordance with the expressed wishes of Mr McLevie, That no action be taken.

It was unanimously resolved That this vestry place on record their appreciation of the faithful service Mr McLevie has rendered this parish during the years he has been with us as Curate, and we extend to him our very best wishes for his future happiness and wish him every success in his new sphere of influence as Vicar of North East Valley.


New Priest

Mr Maunsell moved and Mr Hyde seconded That the Vicar be authorised to engage a successor to Mr McLevie at a salary of £225 when he reaches the status of priest. Carried.


Parish magazine

The Vicar reported on the position of the Parish Magazine account and moved That the parish magazine be reduced in size by half and that it be distributed to all church families free of cost. Seconded by Mr Ninnes and Carried.


Financial Statement

It was resolved That the financial statement be received.


Messrs Penistone and Clark were appointed to take up the offertories for July.


The meeting closed with the Grace.
