Special Parishioners' Meeting
HALL AND SUNDAY SCHOOL TO BE ERECTED
A well-attended meeting of parishioners was held in the common room at St Matthew's last night, to consider plans for the new Parish Hall and Sunday School to be erected on the vacant section adjoining the church grounds in Church Street. The Vicar (Rev. W. Bullock) presided.
After considerable discussion, it was decided to erect a well-proportioned hall, with a stage built at one end, flanked by dressing rooms. Behind the stage will be a kitchen and common room. The main hall will be partitioned off for Sunday School classes, the partitions being movable when the hall is required for congregational meetings. It will accommodate from 300 to 400 people. The hall will front Church street and will not obstruct the view of the church when approaching from Queen street.
The ground is already the property of the parish, and approximately £1000 is in hand for the hall. It is hoped that another £1000 will be raised in a campaign between this and Christmas, and £1500 will be borrowed to complete the building.

The Vicar presiding and about 30 parishioners.
Plans for Parish Hall and Sunday School
Mr Hale moved "That this meeting of St Matthew's Parishioners approve the plans for a new Parish Hall and Sunday School as submitted by the Vestry, with the proviso that the main hall be 60ft long, in lieu of 55ft as shown on the plans. Seconded by Mr Ball and Carried.
Finance
It was unanimously resolved that this meeting of Parishioners authorise the Vestry to expend a sum of not more than £3,750 on the building to be known as the Parish Hall and Sunday School and that they further authorise the Vestry to devote the Maunsell bequest of £500 with the accrued interest thereon to the scheme and that the sum standing to the credit of the sale of the sections at Kuripuni account be devoted to the same purpose.
Sunday School partitions
Mr Best moved That provision be made in the construction of the building to have the classrooms in the Sunday School divided off by means of folding wooden partitions. Seconded by Mr Dodge and carried.
In view of the lateness of the hour, the question of launching a scheme for financing the project was left in abeyance.
The meeting then closed.
