Minutes of Vestry Meeting held at the Vicarage on Friday, April 4, 1924, at 7.30 p.m. (Page 51)


Present

The Vicar presiding. Churchwardens Hale and Dodge; Vestrymen Waddington, Dunderdale, Ball, Hyde, Hosking, Denbee and the Revd. Gibson.


Minutes

The Minutes of the last meeting of the Vestry held on Thursday, February 29, 1924, were read and confirmed.


Resignation

Mr J Evans forwarded his resignation as a member of St Matthew's Vestry, brought about through him being transferred to Christchurch.


It was resolved that Mr Evans resignation be accepted and that this Vestry of St Matthew's places on record its honest regret at losing the services of Mr J Evans, who has at all times been painstaking and energetic, and who has brought considerable ability into operation in carrying out his duties during the 12 years he has been a member of the Vestry and Further we wish him God speed in his new sphere of influence.


Foundation stone laying

It was resolved that the date as suggested by the Bishop for the Foundation Stone Laying of the Parish Hall, viz, Saturday, May 3rd, be agreed to.


Financial Statement

The Financial Statement as appearing on page 745 was adopted and accounts totalling £924.12.6. as appearing thereon passed for payment.


Curate's stipend

Dr Hosking moved and Mr Hyde seconded, that the stipend of the Rev. Gibson be increased from £250 to £300, such increase to date from April 1st, 1924.


Church lighting

A general discussion took place on the question of electrically lighting the church. In view of a tender from Messrs Turner and Evans not being to hand, no action was taken.


Offertories

The Churchwardens were appointed to take up the offertories for April.


The meeting then closed.
