June 1922 Vestry Meeting

Minutes of Vestry Meeting held in the Vicarage on Wednesday, June 28, 1922, at 8.15 p.m. (Pages 3 and 4)


Present

The Vicar, the Revd. W. Bullock presiding;  Churchwardens Hale and Major; Vestrymen Best, Whitton, Hyde, Trimen, Evans, Clarke and Denbee.


Apologies

Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Welch and Waddington and Blackman.


Minutes

The minutes of the last meeting of the Vestry held on Thursday, May 24, 1922, were read and confirmed.


Correspondence - Hobday

A letter was received from Mr Hobday explaining the reason why he had not replied to the Vestry's letter written in April 1921.

It was resolved that Mr Hobday's letter be acknowledged and that he be informed the organ is working satisfactorily at present.


Treasurer

Mr Lamb explained to the Vestry circumstances which had arisen, relative to his position as Treasurer, which made it impossible for him to continue the office. He therefore tendered his resignation to the Vestry.

Mr Hale moved and Mr Best seconded that the resignation of Mr W G Lamb as Treasurer be accepted.  Carried.

It was resolved that the matter of the appointment of a new treasurer be left in the hands of Messrs Major and Hale.


Clergy house

Mr Major reported on behalf of the House Committee that the committee had secured nine months' lease of a house in Dixon Street [crossed out and replaced with South Road in pencil] for the Revd. Moir at a rental of 30/- per week, commencing on July 1, 1922.

Mr Hyde moved that the action of the committee be confirmed and that the Vestry pay to the Rev. Moir a stipend of £25- per annum, plus the rent of the Dixon Street house. Seconded by Mr Clarke and carried.


Post Office account Trustees

The Secretary pointed out to the Vestry the need for a change of Trustees in the Parish account at the Post Office and moved as follows:

That the Rev. Wm. Bullock and Mr A C Major be appointed Trustees of the St Matthew's Parish Account in the Post Office Savings Bank in place of the Revd. J Watson and H B Dyer - old Trustees.

That from date hereof the account will be operated upon by the newly-appointed Trustees.

That this authority is a continuing one until withdrawn in writing, and that it cancels all previous authorities.

Seconded by Mr Clarke and carried.


Financial statements

A Statement of receipts and expenditure as appearing on page 758 was read and accounts totalling £4.1.10 recommended for payment.


Church cleaner

The Vicar brought under the notice of the Vestry the matter of having the cleaning up of the church put on a more satisfactory basis.

It was resolved that Mrs Marshall the present cleaner, be requested to devote more time to the cleaning of the church and that she be paid 10/- per week for cleaning, in lieu of 8/- as at present.


Parish Hall

Mr Major moved and Mr Hale seconded that the matter of moving the old organ bellows annex at the old church to the Parish room entrance, be left in the hands of Mr Hyde, with power to act. Carried.


Offertories

Messrs Blackman and Best were appointed to take up the offertories for July.


The meeting closed with the Grace.
