November 1922 Vestry Minutes
Minutes of Vestry Meeting held in the Common Room on Thursday, November 30, 1922, at 8.00 p.m (pages 16-17)
Present
The Vicar presiding; Rev Moir; Churchwardens Major, Vestrymen Whitton, Best, Dodge, Clarke, Trimen, Hyde and Denbee.
Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Waddington and Hale.
The Minutes of the previous vestry meeting held on 26 October 1922, also those of a Special Meeting held on Monday, November 13, 1922, were read and confirmed.
The Vicar, before commencing the meeting, extended to Mr Dodge a welcome on behalf of the Vestry on his election to the Vestry. To which Mr Dodge suitably replied.
The Committee appointed to report on the question of purchasing the Plans and Specifications of the Church from the executors of the late Mr Mountfort asked for an extension till the next Vestry meeting on which to report.
Section purchase
The Vicar moved and Mr Hyde Seconded That the Vestry of St Matthew's Church, Masterton, hereby approves of the action of Mr A C Major in writing to Messrs Gray Bros. informing them that the Vestry had exercised the option to purchase the half acre adjoining the Church for £450 cash, the price stated in the said option. Carried.
Mr Denbee moved That Messrs Major and Hyde together with the Vicar of St Matthew's Parish be and hereby are appointed Trustees of the Land agreed to be purchased from Messrs Gray Bros. with power to mortgage the said land (with a power of sale) and upon such terms and conditions as the Vestry shall direct. Carried.
The Vicar moved That Mr A C Major be requested to prepare a declaration of trust in respect of the said land from Messrs Gray Bros. to Messrs A C Major, G Hyde and the Vicar of St Matthew's Parish, Masterton. Seconded by Trimen. Carried,
Moved by the Vicar That in accordance with arrangements verbally made between Messrs Gray Bros. and Mr Major, the Vestry confirms the action of Mr Major in arguing that Messrs Gray Bros. should not be called upon to contribute to the cost of any boundary fence between the land purchased by the Vestry and the balance of the Section, while owned by Messrs Gray Bros and that any costs of survey in connection with the said purchase in order to complete the conveyance thereof shall be born by the Vestry. Seconded by Mr Clarke and Carried.
Purchase money
The Vicar moved and Mr Hyde seconded That the purchase money for the Section be taken from the Parish Hall Building Fund. Carried.
It was resolved that Mr Hyde be authorised
(a) to provide a pair of steps suitable for use in the church;
(b) To get the windows in the Choir Loft wired against the bird nuisance;
(c) To get necessary repairs to the lavatory in the Old Church Grounds [Church Acre] carried out.
Financial Statement
It was resolved that the Financial Statement as appearing on page 757 be accepted as read and that the accounts appearing thereon (as amended) be passed for payment.
Vestry meeting
Mr Denbee moved that the next Vestry meeting be held on the last thurday in January, 1923.
Offertories
Messrs Trimen and Hyde were appointed for the offertories in December and Whitton and Dodge, January.
Meeting closed with the Grace.
