KURIPUNI NOTES.
A great annual event in the life of the Church of the Epiphany is the Sunday School concert. This year’s concert should be one of the best ever held and we look forward to seeing a crowded hall. A splendid programme has been arranged. The concert will be held in the Epiphany Hall on Saturday, 4th June, at 8 p.m.
The Sunday School has grown to such an extent that three extra classes have had to be formed. This is splendid, and we welcome the new teachers.
CARD EVENINGS.
For a good many years, each winter, a committee of the Ladies’ Guild has run a series of bridge evenings. These have proved very happy functions, greatly enjoyed by all who attend. The series will be run again this year on Thursday evenings in the Common Room of the Parish Hall. Alternate nights will be in aid of the Guild and of St. Matthew’s Scouts. The series will open on Thursday, 4th May, at 7.45 p.m., in the Common Room, when a very happy evening is promised all who attend.
SOCIAL AFTERNOON
Among the brightest and happiest social functions of the year are the social afternoons organised by the Ladies’ Guild. The first of such functions for this year will be held on Thursday, 2nd June, at 2.30 pm., in the Parish Hall. A good programme will be presented and a dainty afternoon tea served by Guild members, All ladies are invited to be present and so give the Guild the usual splendid start to another year of service. Admission is one shilling. We are glad to say that Mrs. J. T. Holland, of Featherston, has most kindly consented to speak at this gathering.

VICAR’S LETTER.
My Dear Parishioners,
April was a month of annual meetings and it was very plain by the enthusiasm displayed that all our Parish organisations are going to have another very happy and successful year. The position in which our Church finds itself is proving direct encouragement to us all to carry on with vigour all our efforts which have for their aim the strengthening of God’s Kingdom. So we look forward to another wonderful and inspiring year. There can be no doubt that God is calling us to make this year one of spiritual advance. A great spiritual revival is the most urgent need of our day. Signs are not wanting that we are on the verge of great things. But God works through us. In a very real sense the issue is in our hands. Let us play a worthy part.

ANNUAL MEETING.
This was a well-attended, happy and inspiring meeting, marked by great rejoicing at the splendid result of the year’s work and the attainment of our ideal of a Parish free of debt. Some excellent speeches were made and there was manifest a determination to go forward in service to maintain and increase all the work of the Parish. One left the meeting full of confidence for the future of our Church. The names of the officers elected will be found on the front page. Supper was served by the wives of vestrymen.
In the course of the evening, reference was made to the fine record of glorious service rendered by Mr. T. T. Denbee, a member of the Vestry for over 30 years and for many years our Parish honorary secretary. All regretted that Mr. Denbee felt that the time had come for him not to seek re-election. Later, members of the Vestry made a presentation to Mr Denbee in token of their appreciation of his service and fellowship. In reply, Mr Denbee made sincere and moving speeches both at the meeting and to the Vestry.
CALL TO YOUTH
The youth of our New Zealand church are making at great efforts. In many centres in Bible Classes they have been preparing. At Evensong on Sunday, May 8, at 7 p.m., in St. Matthew’s, the Vicar will speak on this great youth campaign. Here is something to gladden the hearts of all. Those who are older can encourage by their sympathy and help. At this service we can learn what is happening and see where we can lend a helping hand and encourage our own youth as they go out to their great adventure.
YOUTH CAMPAIGN.
Our Bible Classes are large and keen and are ready to take an active part in the campaign which the Unions have launched. A rally service will be held at St. Matthew’s at 4.30 p.m. on Sunday, 5th June, when the speakers will be members of a Wellington team. Tea will follow in the Parish Hall, and the rally will conclude with Evensong at 7 p.m. We want all the young men and women of the Parish to come to this great rally. It is going to be a, wonderful occasion. A keen Masterton team has been formed from our Senior Bible Class and is in active training to play its part by visits to two other parishes in June. All the teams are to be commissioned by the Bishop at a special service in Wellington on Sunday, 8th May. The prayers of all are asked for God’s Blessing upon the great campaign of youth for youth.
GIRLS’ CLUB
This popular Church organisation has just had its annual meeting and started another season. The Club is open to girls of 16 years and over, and besides its social activities renders great service to the Church. Miss Ellen Dickason is secretary and Miss J. Purcell is treasurer. Though the Club is a large one, new members are always welcome. The Club meets on Tuesdays, at 7.30 p.m., in the Parish Hall. There is also a Senior Branch, which does great work. This meets every Monday, except the first Monday in the month, in the Common Room, at 8 p.m. Miss G. Hale will be glad to give full information to all interested.
PARISH NOTES
The attendance at the Quiet Afternoon conducted by Mrs. F. Wallis exceeded all expectations. It was an inspiring afternoon and we are grateful to Mrs. Wallis for her help.
Inspiring services marked Palm Sunday. The procession of palms in the morning was most impressive and the Choir’s rendering of the “March to Calvary” in the morning, and of Stainer’s “The Crucifixion,” in the evening was a real help to the great congregations.
There were good attendances at the Good Friday services in spite of unfavourable weather. Easter Day was a most inspiring day with 469 Communicants. Our churches were beautifully decorated for the festival.
On Thursday, 21st April, the Bishop of Polynesia gave a most interesting talk, illustrated by lantern pictures, on the work of his scattered diocese.
The preacher at both services at St. Matthew's on Sunday, 22nd May, will be the Rev. C. H. Isaacson, B.A. We are grateful to Mr Isaacson for consenting to help us on this day so as to allow the Vicar to have a brief holiday.
From Monday, 9th May, to Saturday. 14th May, a "School for Clergy" is to be held at Marton. Canon Sykes will be available for any occasional duties during that week.
St. Matthew’s Tennis Club have fixed their annual dance and presentation of trophies for Wednesday, 1st June, at 8 p.m., in the Parish Hall.
The results of the annual effort for Sedgley Home are not quite complete. The response now amounts to £73 7s 9d as against last year's total of £68 3s 4d. The Sedgley Committee do appreciate this splendid help in the great work the Home is doing.

C.E.M.S.
The renewal of membership service on Palm Sunday was most impressive. The April meeting was the annual meeting of the branch. There was a good attendance and the report revealed that another splendid year of service had been attained. Plans were discussed for the future. A paper was given by Mr. J. Woolf, who spoke on the problem of abortion, dealing most comprehensively with the subject. The more one studies these problems the stronger grows the conviction that it is only by by living and personal religion that standards can be raised. By our faithfulness to the Christian ideal in worship and service we do something practical to help humanity. The next meeting falls on Monday, 2nd May, at 7.45 p.m., in the Common Room, when the address will be given by Mr. J. Wells. All men are invited to be present and link up with the Branch and so get the fellowship and help that membership gives.
LADlES’ GUILD.
In spite of heavy rain there was a splendid attendance at the annual meeting of the Guild. The past year has been a very happy and successful one and prospects are very bright for the coming year. Mrs J. M. Atkinson was appointed secretary, and plans were made for the year’s activities. The Vicar conveyed to members the thanks of the Church officers for the splendid help rendered by the Guild. The Guild now meets every Thursday, at 2.30 p.m. in the Common Room of the Parish Hall. What a splendid thing it would be if all lady parishioners linked up with this, their own parish organisation! Active members are those who meet each week and honorary members are those who value membership even though unable to attend and pay a subscription of 5/- per year.
