June 1923 Vestry Meeting
Minutes of Vestry Meeting held at the Vicarage on Thursday, June 29, 1923, at 7.30 pm. (Pages 31-32)
Present
The Vicar Presiding, Churchwardens Hale and Dodge; Vestrymen Ball, Hyde, Trimen, Evans, Herbert, Dunderdale, Waddington, Dr Hosking and Denbee.
Minutes
The minutes of the Vestry Meeting held on Thursday, May 29, 1923, were read and confirmed.
Arising therefrom
Public Trust
The Secretary reported the result of the interview he had with the Deputy Public Trustee re the Vestry renting a locker in the Public Trust Office. Mr Dodge moved, Mr Herbert seconded, that the question of renting a locker from the Public Trustee be not entertained. Carried.
Lease of Mr Inn's House
Mr Evans reported on the steps taken so far by the committee appointed for the purpose in connection with the vestry's lease of the house in Renall Street owned by Mrs Inns.
Deeds and documents
The Vicar moved, Mr Hale seconded that the Secretary approach Mr Major with a view to getting all church deeds, documents, agreements, etc, placed in the office of Mr A C Major for safe custody. Carried.
A C Major
It was resolved that the letter from Mr A C Major thanking the vestry for its resolution in connection with his services as churchwarden be received.
Financial Statement
Mr Ball moved and Mr Dodge Seconded that the financial statement as appearing on page 750 be adopted and accounts appearing thereon passed for payment.
Farewell to Mr Moir
It was resolved that the question of a Parish farewell to Mr Moir be held in abeyance until the arrival of the new curate when advantage will be taken to combine a farewell to Mr Moir and a welcome to the curate.
The date of such function to be arranged later.
Lighting and Heating church
Mr Hale read a letter received from the Manager of the gasworks relative to heating and lighting the church.
After fully discussing the matter Mr Dodge moved and Mr Ball seconded that the question of heating the church be held over until the time is ripe for considering the heating of the Parish Hall and that the question of lighting be left in the hands of Mr Hale with discretionary powers in regard to replacing broken globes with the new kind of globe mentioned in the Gas Manager's letter.
Beautifying church property
Dr Hosking and Mr Dodge were appointed a sub-committee for the purpose of beautifying the church property.
Parish Hall
It was resolved that the Plans submitted by Mr Dodge, also the question of ways and means of financing the scheme to build the Parish Hall be held over for consideration at a special meeting of the Vestry to be held on Monday, July 16, 1923, in the common room at 7.30 p.m.
Offertories
Messrs Herbert and Denbee were appointed to take up the Offertories for July.
