July 1923 Vestry Meeting
Minutes of Vestry Meeting held at the Vicarage on Thursday, July 26, 1923, at 7.30 p.m. (Pages 34-35)
Present
The Vicar presiding; Churchwarden Hale; Vestrymen Ball, Trimen, Dr Hosking, Dunderdale, Herbert, Evans, Waddington, Hyde, Denbee.
Minutes
The minutes of the last ordinary meeting of the vestry held on Thursday, June 29, 1923, also those of a Special meeting held on Monday, July 17, 1923 were read and confirmed.
Welcome social
Mr Waddington moved and Mr Hale seconded That a parish social be held on Tuesday, August 28, 1923, in the Parish Hall for the purpose of welcoming the new curate and saying farewell to Mr Moir.
Sub-committee
A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Hyde, Ball and Herbert were appointed for the purposes of arranging details in connection with the above social.
Painting vicarage
The Vicar reported that the Archdeacon of the Wairarapa had stressed the need for the painting of the vicarage.
In view of the fact that a committee had been set up for this purpose "with power to act" it was resolved that the existing arrangement be not interfered with, except that the name of Mr Major who had resigned from the Vestry, be deleted from the committee.
Plans for Parish Hall
Mr Raymond Lee submitted amended plans for the proposed Parish Hall and Sunday School.
Mr Evans moved and Mr Hale seconded that it be a recommendation from this Vestry to a meeting of parishioners, that the plans as submitted by Mr Lee be accepted as a basis for the building of a Parish Hall and Sunday School and that when tenders are called alternative prices be obtained for an iron roof and a Marseilles tiled roof. Carried.
Date of Parishioners' Meeting
Mr Waddington moved, Mr Hale seconded, That a Parishioners' Meeting be called for Wednesday next, August 1, 1923, at 8 p.m. to which the plans will be submitted, also the suggested ways and means of financing the scheme.
It was resolved on the motion of Mr Denbee, seconded by Mr Trimen, that it be a recommendation to the Parishioners that in addition to the amount of money we have in hand and in sight on account of the Building Scheme, an appeal be made for £1000.
That a campaign for raising the £1000 be commenced on the 12th of August and that the duration of the campaign be 20 weeks.
Offertories
Messrs Ball and Dunderdale were appointed to take up the offertories for August.
The meeting closed with the Grace.
