August 30, 1928 Vestry meeting

Minutes of Vestry Meeting held in the Common Room on Thursday, August 30, 1928, at 7.30 pm. (Pages 128-129)


Present

The Vicar presiding; Churchwarden Hosking; Vestrymen Ninnis, Dunderdale, Smith, Major, Penistone, Clarke, Hyde and Denbee; also Mr McElvie.


Minutes

The minutes of the last meeting of the Vestry held on Thursday, July 26, also the minutes of a special meeting held on Thursday, August 9, 1928, were read and confirmed.


H Beetham

It was resolved that the action of the Vestry in the matter of the appointment of Mr H[arold] Beetham as one of the representatives on the St Matthew's Collegiate School Board of Trustees be confirmed.


Financial statement

The Vicar moved that the financial statement as appearing on page 699 be adopted and accounts appearing thereon passed for payment.

Arising therefrom It was resolved that at the October Vestry Meeting, a date be fixed on which a spel [special] meeting be held for the purpose of considering Finance. The Vicar and Treasurer to bring down a Financial Statement at such special meeting.


Curate Fund

The Vicar moved that the Treasurer make application to the Diocesan Board for a further £100 from the spel [special] fund held by them and that the same be credited to the Curate Fund account.


Vicarage Car

The Vicar having reported (as a result of a collision) that the Parish Car was out of commission and that quite a large sum would be required to put the car in running order, Mr Dunderdale moved and Mr Hyde seconded that the Vicar provide his own car and that the Vestry allow the vicar £120 p a, plus the cost of the Insurance Premium, for upkeep; and that the first half year's upkeep allowance be paid in advance, after which, that the upkeep allowance be paid monthly and that the question of disposing of the old car be left to the Vicar to sell at the best possible price.  Carried.


Old Church Section

The Secretary was instructed to write Mr Carter informing him of the possibility of a section of the Old Church Acre being leased and enquiring whether the Diocesan Trustees will allow the Vestry to deal with the matter and to what extent, whether the Vestry can get a valuation made and whether the values figures would require to be submitted to the Diocesan Board and further will the Diocesan Board authorise the Vestry to remove the Old Church and under what conditions.

The Vicar moved that a sub-committee be set up to deal with the disposal of the church and sections and to report to the Vestry as necessity arises. Such sub-committee to consist of Messrs Smith, Hyde, Dr Hosking and the Vicar?

Seconded by Mr Dunderdale and Carried.


Old Parish Hall

It was resolved that the Old Parish Hall (after the present arrangement with the Amateur Theatrical Coy has terminated) be not again let for any purpose, other than to some one or other of the organisations connected with the Church.


Church Organ

It was resolved that the matter of arranging the charge to be made to an applicant for the use of the Church Organ be left to the Vicar.


All Nations' Fair

In the matter of taking charge of the afternoon tea arrangements, in connection with the pending All Nations Fair effort, it was decided that this be left to the wives of the Vestrymen and wives of the Churchwardens be appointed convenors of the meetings.


Offertories

Messrs Ninnes and Denbee were appointed to take up the offertories for September.


The meeting closed with the Grace.
