CELEBRATION AT ST. MATTHEW'S
Patronal festival services were held yesterday in St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, and in the evening a social gathering took place in the Parish Hall. A choral Eucharistic service was conducted in the church in the morning, and at the evening service the preacher was the Ven. Archdeacon Hansell, of Lower Hutt. The Carterton Choir assisted in the proceedings.
At the conclusion of the service in the evening, parishioners were entertained at a social gathering in the Parish Hall, a most happy time being spent by all. A musical programme was contributed to by Mrs. Rosewarne (songs), St. Matthew's Girls' Club (part songs), Miss Rae Rosewarne (pianoforte sole), the Rev. W. F. Stent (humorous recitation); skipping dance, Eileen Taylor; quick-time dance, Moreen Nix and hornpipe, Esmead Connell, the last three contributors being pupils of Miss Peggy Clunies Ross. The accompaniments were played by Mr. Eric Green. At an interval in the proceedings speeches appropriate to the occasion were made by the Ven. Archdeacon Hansell, the Rev, W. Bullock, the Rev. W. F. Stent and Mr. Kitchen, of Carterton, who spoke on behalf of the Carterton visitors. The supper arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames Hyde, Green and Denbee.

The Vicar Presiding; Churchwardens - Hosking and Maunsell. Vestrymen Hyde, Smith, Penistone, Green Morton, Ninnes, Russell, Denbee.
Minutes
The Minutes of the vestry meeting held on Thursday, August 25/7 were read and confirmed.
Architect
It was resolved that the Vicar again write the Architect Mr Harman re the Side Chapel and Clergy Vestry and report further to the next meeting of the Vestry.
Financial Statement
The Financial Statement was appearing on page 707 was adopted and accounts appearing thereon passed for payment.
E Hale
The Secretary was instructed to write Mr E Hale, conveying to him the Vestry's sincere regret that he has been obliged to lay aside through illness and that the Vestry rejoices to learn he is now well on the way to a complete recovery.
Offertories
Messrs Green and Denbee were appointed to take up the offertories for October.
The meeting closed with The Grace.
